Student Support
We are committed to providing a caring and supportive environment for students. We rejoice in the cultural diversity of our community, and are committed to equity within that diversity.
- Our School of Counselling provides free counselling services for those times when personal problems are of concern. To see a Counsellor simply contact the Counselling Centre Coordinator.
- The Dean of Students, Dr Graham Barker, is an ordained Minister and registered Clinical Psychologist and he coordinates the Institute's chaplaincy and counselling services. His office is in the Counselling Centre.
- The Dean of Students meets regularly with the Student Council, an elected body representing students' interests. Students in your discipline elect a Student Council member who will speak for the issues that may be of concern to students in your course. There are also members representing the interests of student housing, international students and graduate students.
- "Small Groups" meet together throughout the year for encouragement, personal support and friendship.
- You are encouraged to discuss your progress with faculty members, and your Head of School and Lecturers will provide academic guidance and support in problems related to your studies.
- Staff in the Registrar's Office will assist you with government grants and loans, immigration matters, transfers and articulation, and many of the administrative issues of student life.
- Financial counselling and advice is available from the Finance and Administration Manager and his staff.
- There are many Pastors and Chaplains on staff, and your spiritual development is enhanced through chapels, retreats, care groups, prayer groups, and community activities.
- We have a well-developed grievance procedures and guidelines for those situations where you feel you have not received fair treatment.
- A weekly newsletter, The Informer, provides relevant information and advice.
- A weekly chapel service including prayer, guest speakers, student contributions and community announcements.
