YPA Music has a growing range of courses designed to stimulate and challenge! Individual lessons are held in Wesley Institute's fully sound-proofed and air-conditioned music studios. The Music Department holds recitals on a regular basis.

Instruments
YPA Music offers tuition in all orchestral and contemporary instruments and voice. This includes:

Staff
Our YPA Music staff is made up of industry professionals and senior tertiary students from the Institute. We are continually adding new teachers, so if you don't find the instrument you wish to study here, contact us and we will be happy to arrange a teacher for you.
YMU-100 SERIES - INDIVIDUAL TUITION
Parents of students enrolled in YMU-100 series classes are encouraged to attend lessons for educational purposes as well as providing a safeguard for our staff and students alike in relation to Child Protection Policies. Our staff are trained in current Child Protection Policies, are mandatory reporters of Risk of Harm and are required to uphold the highest standards of staff conduct.
YMU-101 - 30 MINUTE INDIVIDUAL LESSON

Fee per term (10 weeks): $385 inc. GST
One of the foundational courses in Music, this course is suitable for beginners and offers the student a weekly one-on-one lesson on their chosen instrument. Through this course, the student will gain a solid understanding of the fundamental techniques unique to their instrument and they will have opportunities to perform in regular YPA events. Two written assessments of the student will be made by our staff during the course of the year. Students in this course are encouraged to enrol in musicianship classes (YMU-401) to aid in the acquisition of general musical knowledge. For this class, students will need:
- Instrument and accessories (discuss renting or purchasing options with a YPA Staff member if unsure)
- Notebook
- Music Stand (for home use)
- Tutor books as required by the teacher
YMU-102 - 45 MINUTE INDIVIDUAL LESSON
Class Day and time: To be arranged by tutor
Location: Music Studios
Fee per term (10 weeks): $577.50 inc. GST
This course is tailored for students at an intermediate level on their instrument and provides a weekly one-on-one lesson with a little more time to go into more sophisticated levels of technique and musical development. Students in this course will have opportunities to perform in regular YPA events. Two written assessments of the student will be made by our staff during the course of the year. Students in this course are encouraged to enrol in musicianship classes (YMU-402) to aid in the acquisition of general musical knowledge. For this class students will need:

YMU-103 - 60 MINUTE INDIVIDUAL LESSON

Designed for advanced students, this course will provide a level of training enabling students to sit for higher AMEB exams , including AMusA and LMusA, or to prepare for entrance into tertiary level study. Students in this course will have opportunities to perform in regular YPA events. Two written assessments of the student will be made by our staff during the course of the year. Students in this course are encouraged to enrol in musicianship classes (YMU-402) to aid in the acquisition of general musical knowledge. For this class, students will need:

YMU-104 - 2 x 30 MINUTE INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

This course will fast-track the student into a life of music. Developed for those who are serious about getting ahead, this course gives twice-weekly contact with a YPA staff member and covers fundamental techniques on the chosen instrument. Students in this course will have opportunities to perform in regular YPA events. Two written assessments of the student will be made by our staff during the course of the year. Students in this course are encouraged to enrol in musicianship classes (YMU-401) to aid in the acquisition of general musical knowledge. For this class, students will need:

YMU-105 - 2 x 45 MINUTE INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

Making the most of crucial developmental stages in the students life, this course will enable the student to implement more complex techniques at an earlier stage. Students in this course will have twice-weekly contact with a YPA Staff member and will have opportunities to perform in regular YPA events. Two written assessments of the student will be made by our staff during the course of the year. Students in this course are encouraged to enrol in musicianship classes (YMU-402) to aid in the acquisition of general musical knowledge. For this class, students will need:

YMU-106 - 2 x 60 MINUTE INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

To apply for this course a student is expected to show a very high degree of dedication to and ability on their chosen instrument. This course is intended for students who are serious about achieving success in competitions, high grades in diploma level AMEB courses or for those about to graduate from YPA bound for tertiary study in music performance. Students in this course will have opportunities to perform in regular YPA events. Two written assessments of the student will be made by our staff during the course of the year. Students in this course are encouraged to enrol in musicianship classes (YMU-402) to aid in the acquisition of general musical knowledge. For this class, students will need:

YMU-200 SERIES - SMALL ENSEMBLES (3-8 students)
YMU-201 - ELEMENTARY CHAMBER MUSIC (INSTRUMENTAL)

This classical music based course is suitable for a student who has been learning for at least one year and is still enrolled in a 30 minute individual lesson. In addition to the fundamental technical skills already gained in the individual lesson, this course begins to develop the student's ability to listen and respond to other musicians around them whilst still playing their own part! The group will have a 30 minute tutorial with a staff member once a week. Once enrolled the student will be assigned to a group by our staff. For this class, students will need:

YMU-202 - INTERMEDIATE CHAMBER MUSIC (INSTRUMENTAL)

Fee per term (10 weeks): $165 inc. GST
Suitable for a student enrolled in a 45 minute individual lesson, this classical music based course builds on skills gained in YMU-201 and develops communication skills between players and also has an emphasis on stagecraft. The group will have a 45 minute tutorial with a YPA staff member once a week. Once enrolled the student will be assigned to a group by our staff, although applications as a group are encouraged. For this class, students will need:

YMU-203 - ADVANCED CHAMBER MUSIC (INSTRUMENTAL)

Fee per term (10 weeks): $220 inc. GST
Designed to suit advanced students enrolled in a 60 minute individual lesson, this course introduces students to the standard classical repertoire of their chosen combination of instruments. Students at this level are encouraged to choose the members of the group themselves, apply for the course as a group, choose a name for their group and stay playing together over a substantial period of time. Groups in this course will be expected to meet together in their own time to rehearse weekly and will be encouraged to perform on a regular basis. The group will have a 60 minute tutorial with a staff member once a week. For this class, students will need:

YMU-300 SERIES - LARGE ENSEMBLES
YMU-311 - STRING ENSEMBLE

The String Ensemble is an ideal way to introduce a string student to a life of orchestral playing. Tailored for those who have been playing for at least one year. The ensemble rehearses with a staff member once a week for 45 minutes. For this class, students will need:

YMU-400 SERIES - SUPPORTING CLASSES
YMU-401 - JUNIOR MUSICIANSHIP

A musicianship class will give the student vital foundational knowledge of music, covering aspects of music theory, development of secure rhythm, singing, pitching using sol-fa methodology and much more.
YMU-402 - SENIOR MUSICIANSHIP

Fee per term (10 weeks): $120.00 inc. GST
A musicianship class will give the student a more advanced knowledge of music, covering aspects of music theory, rhythm, singing, pitching using sol-fa methodology and more.
