Richard William John Maegraith
Saxophone
Richard Maegraith is considered one of the most respected Jazz
musicians in Sydney. Holding a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from
the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Richard is accomplished on the
tenor and alto saxophone, flute, clarinet, didgeridoo, piano, guitar,
electric bass and drums.
Richard’s extensive career includes a
long list of teaching, performing, touring and recording experiences.
As a teacher, Richard has most recently taught within the Jazz Faculty
at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and given tuition on the
saxophone, flute and clarinet at Scotts College. Richard has toured
with the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, the Jonathan Zwartz Quintet
and the Java Quartet, to name just a few.
In 2010 Richard performed
in the acclaimed stage musical, Jersey Boys. He has also played in
Australian Idol, Chicago, Disney’s High School Musical, Billy Eliot,
Priscilla the Musical, Sinatra in Song, The Great Outdoors, Showboat,
Crazy for You and The Midday Show.
Richard’s most recent
recordings, amidst a long list, include Amphibious, “aLive Breathing;”
Daryl Aberhart, “Aussie Gold;” RMB (Richard Maegraith Band), “Free
Running;” and “Australia” (film soundtrack).
He is the winner of numerous awards and prizes, spanning the length of his career.
