Wesley Institute Welcomes New Students!
The 2011 school year is officially in full swing, and Wesley Institute’s campus is once again bustling with the return of many familiar faces and the welcome of first year students.
New students were introduced to Wesley Institute’s community last week during the 2011 student orientation. Postgraduate students were invited to dinner and music before the formalities kicked off on Tuesday 22 February. It was a pleasure to welcome domestic and international students into our graduate schools of Counselling and Theology. The undergraduate student orientation took place on Thursday 24 February, and campus was filled with over 100 new students eager to begin their first semester of classes. In addition to the traditional orientation sessions and campus introduction, staff and 2nd and 3rd year students enjoyed mingling with the newest members of Wesley Institute. Festivities continued in the afternoon with a City scavenger hunt. Students were led through Sydney’s CBD in pursuit of things to ‘snap,’ ‘find,’ and ‘work.’ Items included a photo of the team creating a pyramid in front of the opera house, participating in a pick-up game of basketball and bringing back an ad for surfing lessons. It was a mad race to the finish, but all teams pulled together to complete the unusual, but exceptional, City Tour.
Thursday evening concluded with a dinner cruise around Sydney’s beautiful harbour. A home grown Institute band provided an energized atmosphere as students ‘strutted their stuff’ on the dance floor. Others chose to relax and take in the captivating view from the top deck. Overall, for everyone, the event was a great opportunity to meet and mingle, and welcome new students to Wesley Institute. Check out the photos from the day!
