Second Year Dance Student, Nicole Prosser, Wins NSW Latin American Championship

Nicole ProsserWesley Institute Dance student Nicole Prosser, along with her dance partner, Laurence Moldavsky, took first place in the Adult Open Latin American event at the Homebush Sports Centre, Sydney Olympic Park, on 21 August 2011.

The day included competitions in Standard, New Vogue and Latin American styles. Nicole and Laurence performed five dances in the Latin American event - the Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive - competing against 11 other couples in the semi-finals before advancing to the final round and taking the championship.

“My Latin dancing has grown immensely through Wesley Institute”, states Nicole. “Studying Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary, something I’ve never done before Wesley Institute, as well as other styles, has allowed me to explore the different ways in which I can execute not only a movement, but understand the inner feeling and spirit that influences everything we do in dance.

The teachers at Wesley Institute have taught me so much. I’ve been challenged to stay committed, and follow my ambitions and love for dance. The course is quite demanding, but I believe it’s preparing me mentally and physically for the professional world.”
