Hats Off to the Graduating Class of 2010!

For the graduates of the class of 2010, Wesley Institute’s graduation on Saturday 7 May signified the culmination of their hard work, perseverance and development over the last few years. No doubt their efforts would have involved many late nights; endless assessments; and countless hours studying, practising and honing their craft. But walking across the stage and receiving a testamur, surrounded by lecturers, mentors and peers who have become life-long friends, brings with it the realisation that every second of investment has achieved something great.

In the largest graduation ceremony to date, 171 Wesley Institute Graduationstudents across all Schools graduated as part of the class of 2010, with 97 receiving their degrees in front of nearly 350 family and friends.

The National Anthem opened the ceremony, sung by music student Lyndell Arthur, and enthusiastically joined by the 500+ people in the auditorium.

Wesley Institute’s Board of Directors, including Chairman Mr Phillip Cave AM and Managing Director Dr Greg Rough, were present to share in the celebration.  Mr Phillip Cave offered the welcome and opening remarks, which were followed by the hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness.

Rev Dr Bill Salier, Vice Principal of Moore Theological College and member of Wesley Institute’s Academic Board, offered the Graduation Address. He spoke on Romans 12:1-2, and the renewal of our minds as, in view of God’s mercy, we offer ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. Bill praised the holistic education provided at Wesley Institute, which affirms the sovereignty of Christ over all areas of life, and encouraged the graduates to continue to grow, be transformed and worship the Lord in everything outside the walls of Wesley Institute.

Valedictorian Hannah Rose Evans, a Bachelor of Dance graduand, followed with a message to the graduating class to remember that each individual chooses what to do with his/her life, and no one should ever be afraid to follow a dream. She reflected on learning experiences from both in and out of the classroom and confidently noted Wesley Institute has prepared each student for whatever the future holds.

The Wesley Institute choir, conducted by Sadaharu Maramatsu and accompanied by Na Ri Kim, performed three exquisite and moving pieces during the ceremony: Londonderry Air, We Shall Walk through the Valley in Peace, and their traditional choral benediction, The Lord Bless You and Keep You.

Graduation 2Dr Bryan Cowling, Executive Director of the Anglican Education Commission and member of Wesley Institute’s Academic Board, said of the graduation: “May I add my congratulations to the others [graduates]. There is a dignity and humanity, as well as an overt godliness in the Wesley Institute graduations that is without equal in my experience of graduations over many years.”

On behalf of the Institute, Congratulations to all our graduates! We wish you all the best!

We would also like to congratulate the graduates who received special commendation for their efforts. View awards here.
