Wesley Institute welcomes New Academic Director
Wesley Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Academic Director, Dr Martin Dowson, Dip.Teach., BA, MA, PhD, BTh, MAPA from November 1, 2010.
The Academic Director provides leadership and direction for the Heads of Schools towards the fulfilment of the Institute’s vision of Transforming Lives through Excellence in Christian Higher Education.
Dr. Martin Dowson is currently the Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Sydney College of Divinity, Director of Studies and Higher Education at the Australian College of Ministries, and Adjunct Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Western Sydney. He is a director of the Australasian Centre for Studies in Spirituality, has been a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Texas and Michigan, and is well connected with numerous Australian and overseas universities.
Dr. Dowson has authored over 150 peer-refereed publications, has supervised many doctoral and other postgraduate research students, and has been successful in achieving $1.5 million in research funding. He has degrees in Theology, Education, and Psychology, has a love of the arts, and plays guitar, bass guitar and piano. He is an active Christian, whom God has used in a variety of ways, and is enthusiastic about supporting all of the Institute's schools.
As Academic Director, Dr. Dowson will be our chief academic officer at Wesley Institute. His responsibilities will include leadership of teaching and learning, academic policy development, teaching research, creative scholarship and management.

Our previous Academic Director, Dr. Alan Bowen-James will provide support and continue to contribute to Wesley Institute as the Chair of the Institute’s Academic Board, supporting our accreditation and education activities, including expansion of our online learning offerings.
