About the Course
The Master of Arts (Religious Education) is a signature degree for accomplished teachers, and for existing and emerging educational leaders of schools and school systems. You may be:
- a leader, or aspiring leader of a department, school or school system where education from a Christian perspective is central and essential
- a teacher seeking to integrate your faith with and within your subject area
- a teacher of Religious, Biblical, or Christian Studies and/or related subjects
- a school chaplain, counsellor or pastoral care worker with significant curriculum or co-curriculum teaching responsibilities.
The course is designed to equip you with
understandings,
skills and
values that will enable you to grow and develop as a grounded, resilient and influential education professional. Through the Master of Arts (Religious Education) you will develop wide-ranging abilities to:
- teach and lead enthusiastically and effectively
- understand, appreciate and adapt to change
- make informed ethical and professional judgements

The Master of Arts (Religious Education) is an accredited postgraduate course that may satisfy the structured CPD requirements to maintain teaching accreditation at Professional Competence, as long as it relates to your relevant area of teaching, or future area of teaching (if re-training).*

*To maintain accreditation at Professional Competence, teachers are required to complete 100 hours of CPD over a five-year period in one or more of the following categories:
- Undergraduate studies that support the Professional Teaching Standards
- Postgraduate studies that support the Professional Teaching Standards
- 50 hours of NSW Institute of Teachers Registered PD activities and 50 hours of Teacher Identified PD
Undergraduate and postgraduate studies have to be in accredited courses that are relevant to the individual teacher’s profile. The teacher has to apply to the NSW Institute of Teachers showing how the study is relevant, which standards it supports and why.
