Women In Crisis
02 May 2008
Wilma
Eileen completed the Post-Graduate Diploma of Counselling at Wesley
Institute before returning to her native country, Fiji. Fully equipped
by the training she received, she has gone on to oversee a branch of
the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre on the western side of Fiji.
Wilma has six staff working for her, with many women and children
coming to benefit from the centre’s free, non judgmental and
confidential counseling. The Women’s Crisis Centre believe that
women’s rights are human rights, so the counseling is based around this
conviction.
In 2007, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre was nominated for Human
Rights Awards for its “bravery and courage in the face of threats and
intimidation, for protecting and defending the rights of Fiji citizens,
specifically the rights of women and children from violence and
oppression, as well as being a leading advocacy organisation for
democracy and justice for all".
Wilma says, “I kind of miss Australia, but on the other hand I am
happy that I have a job that is very satisfying and am also able to use
what I learnt at Wesley, from the Grad Dip in Counselling course".
Wesley Institute is extremely proud of its’ graduates, who are using
their skills and training to bless communities and make a difference
around the world.
