Luke Smith - 2007 Drama Graduate

Update on Luke's International Journey

26 March 2012

Luke was recently cast in a short film starring Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar, Lost, The Fast and the Furious)! The connections he has made during his study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute are indeed paying off, as his ‘Acting for Film and TV’ teacher put him up for the audition.

He has also recently received a part in a feature film to be shot in Tokyo!

Between projects, he is planning on returning to The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for another year. “I've really made huge strides in my craft and technique and I want to come back and cement that,” says Luke.

From Wesley Institute to the 'Big Apple'

Since graduating from Wesley Institute in 2007, Luke Smith’s passion for drama has taken him on a new artistic adventure. Currently in the bustling theatre hub of New York City, Luke is engaged in technique training at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, focusing on an in depth study of the Method style and furthering the sensory work he did at Wesley Institute.

“It’s an amazing city, as almost anyone who has spent any time here will testify too, and the course is really broadening my range and ability as an actor,” said Luke. “I’m making a lot of good contacts and friends.”

Luke will soon be wrapping up his first term before a little time off, and then entering 24 weeks straight of classes. It’s no surprise that it’s keeping him very busy. “I’ve read some 30+ plays in the last 11 weeks”, says Luke. But indeed, the work is rewarding. Luke has been fortunate enough to hear from some great guest speakers this semester, including John Patrick Shanley, writer and director of the award-winning play Doubt and Vincent D’Onofrio from Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

In the little spare time Luke has found, he says he has “seen a really tall French girl holding a torch, been to the top of the Empire State Building, soaked up some art at the MET and experienced a Broadway show which was absolutely fantastic.”
