Lisa Wilson - Dance Alumni

Dance Alumni Lisa Wilson

24 March 2009

For 2003 dance alumna Lisa Wilson, life after Wesley continues to be a journey of personal, spiritual and artistic growth. She has graduated with distinction from the University of Exeter with a Masters of Education in Dance, and conducted dance residencies at the University of Wyoming and at Mississippi’s Belhaven College. Currently serving as the Assistant Director of the School of Dance at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica, Lisa teaches a variety of dance courses, playing an active role in curriculum planning and development.

With her husband Kurt, Lisa established ‘Arts Streams’, a ministry which provides quality arts training to young people in a nurturing environment, whilst sharing the message of the Kingdom of God and serving as a model of how faith and art can be professionally integrated. They conduct weekly technique classes in modern and jazz dance for intermediate and advanced level students in Kingston, Jamaica, along with weekly fitness classes. Partnering with other groups to conduct creative arts summer intensives for young people, they also work with dancers, singers and other creative artists on performance projects. As if that’s not enough, Arts Streams also stages a professional theatre production every two years.

The greatest lessons Lisa has learned since graduating from Wesley Institute and beginning her career?

“That success involves a sound trust in the Author of our lives; risk-taking; discipline; and self-belief. I can assuredly state that the spiritual and artistic foundations established in my life through my studies at Wesley Institute, and the steps I have taken to build on those foundations, have shaped my confidence as a Christian artist in the marketplace today.”
